The US economy has been growing at about a 2 percent rate in the current economic expansion. The retirement of the baby boomers coincides with a slowdown in productivity growth; together, these factors are putting a low cap on the growth potential of the US economy. Most businesses will operate in a slow demand environment that is more similar to the past five years than to the prerecession period. Amid these weak growth conditions, employers will also have to operate in a tight labor market. A prolonged period with both slow revenue growth and tight labor markets is almost unprecedented, yet this is the direction we seem to be headed in for the foreseeable future.
Join us for a conversation on current and future trends of the US economy as we discuss the latest findings of our Global Economic Outlook and help you plan for the medium term.
